I am nominating my 100% wool felt structural wall panelling for the OneWool interior wool product campaign. I am a final year textile design student determined (after spending time working on a sheep farm) to bring back wool and prove it can be a modern and contemporary fabric applicable to all areas of design. My peers in the knitted textile department at Chelsea favour more high-tech, synthetic fibres that despite creating wonderful fabrics are completely unsustainable. I want to demonstrate to them and everyone else how versatile wool is and how it’s natural given qualities offer a wide span of fabric possibilities. The panel photographed is in fact a sample of the final panel, the design of which is also attached. The sample is 250mmx1,300mm but the final panel will be 1,250mm wide and 6,000mm long. It will be displayed at Chelsea College of Art Degree show from the 13th June 2014.
The project as a whole and some of my other work can be found at cargocollective.com/catypalmer.
