I create pictures using felted wool no doubt influenced by my growing up on a Dartmoor hill sheep farm. I chose the medium of wool to work with because it has some unique properties, it is vibrant in colour yet still allows me to achieve subtle graduations and variations in tone. My work has an almost 3D sense of depth and in the right light the pictures are almost luminescent. I also love the fact that I am using a medium for my art which is a sustainable and renewable resource and supporting people in the wool industry.
With my work I try to convey spirit of place and the emotions that I felt as I explore and encounter wild places. I hope these feelings and memories also resonates with the viewer through their own experiences.
People are often surprised to find my pictures are made of wool, I enjoy the fact that things are not always what they seem.
