'My Beloved Monster' needle felted merino wool and found objects
Laura Mabbutt – Felt artist
Laura has been making felt for 10 years and graduated with a BA in Contempoary Decorative Crafts in 2007 from the University of Lincoln, UK.
Specialising in sculptural wet felt techniques, Laura utilises the unique properties of wool creating seamless objects without using adhesives or stitching.
Using natural, undyed fibres, Laura favours a natural colour palette allowing her to concentrate on form without the distraction of colour. In her recent collections, Laura has explored the use of other materials to contrast with the felt and inspire new design ideas.
Laura has also taught the craft of feltmaking for 8 years and has exhibited her work in a variety of venues including the Mall Galleries, London and The National Centre for Craft & Design and is a Flair Member of Design Factory , the UK’s leading creative agency for the development, support and promotion of excellent craft and design practice.
As well as exhibiting and selling her work, Laura takes great satisfaction in teaching the craft of feltmaking to others and is available for demonstrations and workshops.
