I am a Contemporary Felt Artist living and working in the Midlands.
Originally an oil painter, I now work with merino wool creating impressionistic style textile pictures, layering and then felting merino wool in a similar way to how I previously used brushstrokes. After creating a stable felt layer, I then add free machine embroidery and hand stitching. Creating textile pictures combines my passion for painting and drawing with my love of sewing and making things. The wide spectrum of colours of merino wool and how it can be used to create rich vibrant artworks with luminous colour and light appeals to my lifelong passion for colour. I work both from life and from my extensive collection of photographs that I have taken. The main inspiration for my work is colour and light. Brilliant turquoise seas, sunny yellow rapeseed fields, brightly coloured cupcakes are all subjects that inspire me.
Each picture I create is unique, being individually hand crafted using traditional felting techniques. I also add silks, wool nepps, bamboo tops and angelina fibres to give added texture, sparkle and shine.
An interior designer said to me recently, ‘having one of your pictures on my wall makes me smile every day!’ I hope that my work will be something that will make you smile and bring joy into your home!
